Making Memories in Watertown

Remember those summer days from your childhood, where you spent hours being outside, exploring new places, and then coming home just in time for a good meal? With a vacation in Watertown, you can relive those memories—and make some new ones. See for yourself!

Get Outside

We’re known for our water recreation available on Lakes Pelican and Kampeska, so bring your swimsuits, boats, and fishing poles. Watertown has parks and recreation areas surrounding both lakes, giving you ample opportunity to get out on the water.

Man Golfing

Looking to stay on land? We also have two golf courses: Prairie Winds Country Club and Cattail Crossing. Both offer beautiful views and fun for golfers of all ages and skill levels. And, for hiking and biking, hit the trails! Watertown has a great trail system that goes past the Bramble Park Zoo and follows the lake. (Better yet, your nearest trail connection is only a half-mile from the Ramkota Hotel.)

Speaking of Bramble Park Zoo, plan on visiting our beloved family attraction. You’ll find hundreds of animals representing more than 150 species from around the world, and it’s only a few minutes from our hotel. The kids will love it!

Explore Watertown’s Culture

Famous artist Terry Redlin was born and raised in Watertown, and we’re proud of it. The Redlin Art Center is a tribute to his talent, featuring more than 150 of his original paintings. This beautiful museum of history and art is free of charge and will show people of all ages some of Watertown’s best cultural sights.

You’ll want to spend an afternoon in our historic uptown district, too. Start with a coffee and homemade treats from Gather, a local favorite coffee shop. (Tip: it’s also a great place to find souvenirs.) Then head up Kemp Avenue for a self-guided tour through beautiful buildings that showcase our history and character.

Round out your exploration with a stop at the Watertown Confectionery, featuring hand-dipped chocolates, homemade goodies and wine, coffee, and more. And, since the sweets are made on-site, you can actually watch the process! It’s a can’t-miss attraction that locals love and travelers come back for.

Satisfy Your Appetite

People eating

Fun fact: Watertown is South Dakota’s only community with a brewery, distillery, and winery. Dempsey’s Brewery is known as much for pizza as it is for beer: their owner has competed nationally and internationally with his pizza recipes. And, since they offer a kids menu, you can bet there’s something for everyone at this staple Watertown restaurant.

You’ll also find wine at the Watertown Confectionery (which pairs perfectly with their chocolate), as well as premium spirits at the Glacial Lakes Distillery. But, we know sometimes it’s nice to stay in and relax for a meal—especially after a day of exploring. If that mood strikes you, we’re attached to Minervas and offer award-winning dining to suit any craving.
